Industrial Cleaning Case Study:
Biomass Electrostatic Precipitator Cleaning
University of St Andrews

Organisation Profile
The University of St Andrews commissioned a biomass plant to fuel their site in 2016. This biomass plant included an electrostatic precipitator to filter emissions released from the plant.
The Issues
Regular cleaning of electrostatic precipitators is vital to ensure their efficiency and longevity. However, this type of cleaning is highly specialised and potentially hazardous, therefore it is imperative to secure trained and professional industrial cleaners to undertake the task effectively and safely.
Objectives
Confined Space Cleaning of the ESP and Furnace Area
To remove all by-product accumulation from the University’s state-of-the-art biomass Electrostatic Precipitator Unit, as well as targeted furnace areas as requested by the client.
Adherence to Rigorous Health and Safety Measures
The University is a rightful advocate of the most stringent and thorough Health and Safety measures. This Kingfisher project continued to uphold our commitment to best industry practices and meet the requirements of our client.
Results Delivered
Successful Deep Cleaning of ESP Unit and Furnace Area
Our team delivered a successful deep clean of the confined space areas of the ESP unit, which was completed on time and to the client’s satisfaction.
Continuation of Accident Free History
Our team here at Kingfisher have been delivering ESP cleans successfully since 2006. We are proud to have upheld our complete accident-free history thanks to our stringent Health and Safety measures.
Further Work Requests
Our clients were satisfied with the results of our cleaning outcomes and our professional conduct. They requested that we return for twice annual cleans of their Electrostatic Precipitator Unit to uphold the standard that we established.
