INDUSTRIAL PAINTING CASE STUDY:

Stairway Industrial Painting and Rust Removal

Organisation Profile

Marshalls are a UK leading provider of innovative landscaping, building, and roofing solutions. They offer a wide range of construction products with 29 facilities across the UK.

The Issues

Marshalls were renovating the framework one of their external stairways, however the frame showed significant areas of corrosion. These areas needed to be treated before the new steps could be installed.

The stairway framework also stood adjacent to a tall industrial building on site, which presented access issues as the physical stairs and handrails had been removed.

Objectives

Treat the rust

Before painting could begin, the stairway needed to be fully prepared and treated of any corrosion. This would involve mechanically preparing the rusted areas and primed.

Work safely at height

The stairway ascended next to a tall building on site which would require MEWPs to access. The team would need to prioritise safety (as always) and take care to access hard-to-reach areas in order to reach all the necessary surfaces.

Results Delivered

Successful completion of paint project

Our team successfully removed and treated the rust to inhibit future corrosion, before applying a protective coating to the framework. This not only safeguards the surface but also significantly improved its appearance. The framework was restored to a robust standard, enabling future maintenance works to be carried out more effectively.

On site safety

Our team conducted weekly Toolbox Talks to assess on site hazards and mitigate any risks that came up on the job. Our client was impressed to see Health & Safety being taken seriously, as well as being actioned upon in a quantifiable manner rather than just being talked about. We are extremely proud of our dedication to Health & Safety and of our 30+ year accident free record.

Another happy client

We were delighted to hear that Marshall’s were happy with our work, which has had led to yet another positive partnership where we can continue to deliver quality and safety-led painting services.

“We found Kingfisher online when we were looking to carry out external repairs on silos and gantries. Jamie attended site to price the works and was punctual and professional from the outset.

Communication throughout the project has been excellent, with regular updates on progress and clear notifications when materials were delivered to site. As a Site Engineering Manager, the standout aspect for me was their strong commitment to Health & Safety. Their staff followed site rules rigorously, nothing was ever too much trouble, and the works were completed with no risks taken and no injuries and not to mention the detail to work was fantastic.

For the first time in my working life, I also received bi-weekly stand-down toolbox talks, clearly documenting what had been discussed as part of their safety stand-down process. This gave me real confidence that Health & Safety was being actively managed, not just talked about.

I would have full confidence in recommending Kingfisher to anyone – they will not disappoint.”
