For a glass manufacturing plant, IS machines are essential for continuous and profitable production. However, over time, it is easy for the moulds, girders, gantries, pipes and other moving parts of the machine to become coated in oil, dirt and cullet.

This build-up can potentially cause breakdowns of machinery or the contamination of products, both of which can cost you time, money and customers. However, we also understand that you most likely operate 24/7 and so need a cleaning solution that works around your schedule and mould line changes.

The Process of Your Individual Section IS Machine Clean

Here at Kingfisher, we understand the importance of uninterrupted production. We ensure that your IS machine clean is planned and undertaken during planned downtime, for either a complete thorough clean or a shorter clean in between mould line changes.

We recommend a deeper clean during planned shutdown maintenance to ensure a more thorough result. However, we also cater to emergency shutdowns in order to take advantage of unexpected downtime for cleaning maintenance. We encourage you to get in touch as we always prioritise your scheduling where we can, however more notice will allow a more thorough project to be pencilled in.

As per our Project Management Strategy, Kingfisher will plan and manage the entire process so that our clients can focus on what they do best. We provide all the equipment needed, including high pressure jet washers and chemical cleaning agents. The project will, of course, be planned around our client’s timescales and requirements. Regular updates with progress photos will be delivered throughout the process.

1. We arrive to site and set up

We provide all necessary equipment and tools, including our trained operatives and Project Managers. The area immediately around the IS Machines is enclosed in a tarpaulin, preventing contamination with other machines and production close by. Sensitive areas such as control panels are therefore protected during the jet washing process.

2. Clean up begins

We use two high pressure jet washer machines fed from an ICB tank with a degreaser chemical agent. Teams typically consist of two operatives with a Project Supervisor. Oil, cullet, grease and other waste material build up is removed from the surfaces of the machine.

We use high-powered and high-temperature specialist steam jet wash machines, to minimise water ingress into the mechanical sections of the IS Machines during the cleaning process.

3. All areas are completed

We ensure that our IS machine cleans thoroughly cover all areas of the production machine. This includes:

High-level steel work on the blank side and mould side of the machine

Upright mechanical sections on the blank side and mould side of the machine

Removing glass and oil materials and cleaning around the mould sections on both sides of the machine

The control panelling on both sides of the machine

The floor box sections on both sides of the machine

Moulds covered in oil and cullet
Clean moulds

After the main jet wash cleaning process has been completed, sensitive areas such as control panels are cleaned manually and to a high standard.

4. Clean down and project completion

After the main clean up is finished and the IS machines are thoroughly cleaned of dirt and grime, all floor areas are cleaned of waste materials generated by the cleaning process. We ensure that the machine and immediate area is cleared away so that production can restart. Photographs of the end result will be delivered to the client.
