The Process of Your Electrostatic Precipitator Cleaning and Luhr Filter Cleaning Project

1. We arrive to site and set up

We arrive to site having received permits and approvals of our RAMS by the client’s relevant on-site manager. All necessary tools and equipment are provided, including a high-power industrial vacuum, trained operatives and specialist PPE. The area around the ESP or Luhr Filter plant is bordered off for safety. We install all the relevant vacuum pipes and lighting inside the ESP or Luhr unit.

2. Electrostatic Precipitator Cleaning begins

Our business ethos is that if a job cannot be done safely and thoroughly, we will not do it at all. We also believe that manual cleaning is by far the best method of cleaning ESPs. Manual cleaning is the only method that guarantees that all built up particulate matter is removed.

We use specialist high-powered industrial vacuums and hand tools to manually drop particulate matter into the hopper, where it is then removed via the screw for either disposal or recycling.

With Luhr Filter unit cleans, filter bags are manually removed, cleaned and inspected for breakages or faults. The inside of the chamber is manually vacuumed to remove all excess dust before re-fitting the bags.

The team are connected via safety harnesses at all times, with their safety being ensured by a Health and Safety spotter who remains on the deck throughout the project.

Our industrial vacuum method is the only way to guarantee that built up matter is removed from troughs, nooks and hard to reach areas, as there is no way for the dust to fall into the hopper.

Here at Kingfisher we are proud of our reputation as being a leading specialist industrial cleaning company which develops and innovates bespoke solutions to best suit our customers requirements. This innovation extends to our ESP and Luhr Filter Cleaning process which is continually developed to ensure the highest possible results for our clients.

3. Inspection upon project completion

After the cleaning is finished and all of the equipment is packed away, the project work is inspected by the ESP or Luhr manufacturing company, which in many cases for our clients is German company Interprojekt. We are proud that our ESP projects have passed every inspection for over 15 years.

What are Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs)?

Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) units are integral parts of many industrial facilities. They are used for air pollution control, primarily by filtering harmful substances from by-product emissions of a manufacturing process.

If released into the atmosphere, waste particles can cause harm to the planet, contribute to climate change and cause disease such as lung damage and bronchitis.

Particles are collected onto metal collector plates by passing an opposing electrical charge through the gas emissions. Once enough filtered dust has accumulated, mechanical rapper boxes vibrate the collector plates, which allows the dust to fall to the bottom of the unit, called a hopper.

Particulate matter is removed from the hopper via a rotating screw, whereby it is then bagged up and removed for disposal or recycling.

What is the difference with a Luhr Filter Unit?

A Luhr Filter is a type of Electrostatic Precipitator unit, essentially fulfilling the same function. However, instead of vibrating collector plates, gas emissions pass through flat-bag filters and drop into the hopper.
